A Cornerstone Summer Institute Show - a community collaboration with the people of Arvin, Weedpatch, Lamont, and Bakersfield, CA
A mysterious traveler named Flor appears in a fiels of California wildflowers overlooking the land immortalized by Steinbeck's 'Grapes of Wrath' . As she walks, generations of migrants- from the Dust Bowl to the present day appear beside her. Their worlds and their voices collide.
What happens when families from contemporary Mexico and 1930's Oklahoma speak, laugh, and work in the fields together? A story as unpredictable as a field of wild flowers and as filled with color and life. A collaboration with the Kern County town of Arvin, population 19,000. Flor artfully explored Arvin’s rich history of migrants – from the Dust Bowl to the present day – families from contemporary Mexico and 1930s Oklahoma. Performed at Arvin High School.
