CORNERSTONES FIRST YOUTH COMMUNITY COLLABORATION
Inspired by the ways in which young people listen to other young people, we collaborated with a 3rd grade class at Loreto Elementary School, a 7th grade class at Nightingale Middle School and an 11th grade class at Lincoln High School to explore what it is like to be you, at this age, this time, in this place?
Much of what the students shared revealed pain across all age levels, including such topics as gangs, alcohol, violence, death, guns and broken families. Playwright José Cruz Gonzalez shaped these dark yet beautifully resilient stories into three one-act plays, each based on a different fairy tale, and director Laurie Woolery rehearsed the individual classes. In April, each class performed its one-act play for the other classes, and in May, the three one-acts were woven together into a full-length play. The final performances took place at Lincoln High School?s auditorium
on May 5th and 6th for over 600 audience members.

Favorite memory: Being the pig?
Most difficult part: When you changed me to a cow? - 3rd grader
My favorite memory was when we all got together and were introducing ourselves
and talking to the 3rd and 11th graders. - 7th grader
My favorite memory would be all the times we were together, it gave me a feeling
of friendship and family and trust that I don't get often.? - 11th grader
Miracles do happen. I now believe anything is possible. - Mr. Lieberman,
