Title, Premiere and Location

MALLIERE

October 3-27, 1996

Santa Monica Place Mall, Santa Monica, CA

Written By

Moliere (as translated by Albert Bermel), Adapted by Alison Carey

Synopsis

Three Moliere farces adapted by Alison Carey and transported to a Southern California shopping mall. The three farces included SGANARELLE (OR THE IMAGINARY CUCKOLD), THE FORCED MARRIAGE, and THE FLYING E.M.T. The plays were "nested," in that the second is a digression/interruption that starts in the middle of the first, and the third is a digression inside of the second. At the end of THE FLYING E.M.T., the action goes back to THE FORCED MARRIAGE, and then finally back to SGANARELLE.

The setting is a clothing store: THE LOOK. As the action shifts forwards and back through the three plays, the decor of the store reflects the different seasons.

Ovation Award Nomination: Best Supporting Actor, Shishir Kurup.
