Biography

 

DEBRA PIVER (Director of Education) has been affiliated with Cornerstone since 1992 as an educator and artist, was Director of Education from 1995-1998 and resumed this position in July 2002. She was the Director of Education for Literature to Life, Los Angeles and is happy to continue this program at Cornerstone Theater Company in partnership with the American Place Theatre. She has worked with the Mark Taper Forum's Other Voices, UCLA's Theater As a Learning Tool, the Los Angeles Music Center's Education Division and New York University's Creative Arts Team. As an educator, she was on the Theater faculty at California State University at Los Angeles and San Bernardino, has worked as an artist-in-residence in both New York and Los Angeles public schools and serves as a “professional expert” for Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). Debra was included in “Who's Who Among America's Teachers, 2000 and 2005." She is the recipient of a City of Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department “Artist in the Community” grant and a New York Department of Health “Violence Prevention” grant to work with inner-city youth on conflict management through drama. Debra received her Masters of Art in Educational Theater from New York University and a Bachelors of Art in Theater with Honors from Wesleyan University.
